Contemplation

Think of the one you love the most.

Now start describing her to all of us.

Your words flow quickly at first,

       you are excited

moving your hands as you speak.

Your heart beats in sync with your feelings.

You start to run out of words,

         but there’s more to say,

so you slow down as you try to go deeper,

then you slide your hands into your pockets and

press your lips together.

Long inhale, gaze goes to the sky.

Your description has a horizon and you’ve gone beyond it.

There is much left to say, but out here words don’t work.

You are in the deep water now

floating on waves of silence in the presence of the ineffable.

This is where the Divine is pouring the beloved

into existence moment by moment, breath by breath.

You meet her out here on the edge of time and space

in the depth dimension of your own heart

where your true self touches hers, and

you are not other than each other.
