How do I Become a Member?

  • All baptized Christians, no matter the denomination in which you were baptized, may join Good Shepherd Episcopal Church by having your Baptism recorded in our Church membership book. Adult members of our Church are encouraged to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptisms in a confirmation service with a Bishop of our Church.

Our next Pre-Baptismal Meeting will be held on November 17, 2024. Please contact Patty Webb if you are interested!

  • It is a sacramental rite in which the candidate "expresses a mature commitment to Christ, and receives strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop."

Confirmation is for people who were baptized as infants or young children whose baptismal vows were thus made by a parent or godparent on their behalf. Confirmation is quite literally "confirming" that which was done for you before the age of consent.

  • It is a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their baptism in the presence of a bishop.

Reception is for baptized adults who are new to our church. You are received into our fellowship by our bishop on the occasion of his annual visit. This is typically for candidates who have made a mature affirmation of faith in another Christian Fellowship and are quite literally being "received" into our church.

  • You may consider this if you are already baptized and wish to be presented to the bishop in the context of a service of Baptism or Confirmation, to reaffirm your baptismal vows. This is an option for those returning to the church after a period of unbelief or those who have entered a new level of spiritual life. We do not specify who these persons are, and a variety of interpretation exists.

  • If you are already a confirmed Episcopalian and would like to transfer your membership to Good Shepherd fill out the membership form.

If you still don’t know which avenue you join by, just fill out the Membership Form and we will be in touch with you!
