WHO WE ARE

Overview

We are a community of pilgrims, seeking our home in the heart of our Creator. Everyone who wants to join us on this holy pilgrimage with Christ, or any portion of the journey, is welcome to receive nurture here.

BACKSTORY

In order to flesh out our focus on the mission of the church it helps to be clear about what we might call our “backstory.”  In a sentence our “backstory” is - God created all creation including every single one of us, looked upon all creation and saw that it is “very good.”  The mission of the church is to live into and out of our “very good-ness” by spreading the good news of God’s love for all creation near and far.  All creation is very good and unconditionally loved by God, that is why we say, Love is all!

CORE VALUES

In an effort to build on our “backstory” and translate our mission into concrete action we have identified our 5 Core Values: Jesus is Lord, Love is All, All are Welcome, Principles undergird Practices, Equip, Empower, Enable.

These five core values are already operating within us and have us well positioned to be what God is calling us to be as a church in the days ahead.  We will continue to discover more about our vision for the future as we create it together in partnership with the Holy Spirit.

MISSION

The mission of the church as articulated in our Book of Common Prayer is “to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.”  (BCP 855)  Put another way, the Christian understanding of the meaning of life is unity in love with God and all our neighbors.  Life is an ever-unfolding journey into union.  Our chief focus is on union brought about by love.  Jesus is the perfect human image of that union.

10-YEAR TARGET

Here at Good Shepherd, we seek to create an environment in which every member of our church can easily and readily engage in spiritual growth. While each individual's spiritual journey will look a little different, all of us are aimed toward the goal of going deeper in our love relationships with God, our neighbors, and all creation.

Every Member Engaged serves as a reminder that the church is a garden in which children of God can come to grow and engage in the depth dimension of his or her faith journey. We want to continually ask the question - have we created and are we maintaining an environment at Good Shepherd in which the members of the church can engage with God and each other through Worship, Formation, and Outreach in an ever-deepening way?

Our focus for 2024 is to garden for growth in love - Every Member Engaged.
