Giving

at Good Shepherd

The good work of the parish is dependent upon the gifts of God and the generosity of its people. Thank you for your faithfulness and support of Kingdom work in our community and throughout the world.

A Note From Our Treasurer

My peace and blessings to all of you. So much is happening at this beautiful love-filled place we call Good Shepherd. I am inspired by our programming, our staff, our glorious music, all the children and youth in our midst, and all of you. Perhaps you are like me and feeling that Good Shepherd is the place where I can continue my journey to find my “silent center” that Father Hendree spoke about in his “Consider This…” blog recently:

“To lose your life for Jesus’ sake, is to let go of the illusion that when things are just right, you’ll find and feel peace. Show me where that has ever happened in a sustained way. The good news is that God is with and within you. The good news is that you have a silent center, and you can go there. The good news is that you don’t have to be a problem solver to find and feel peace, you just have to accept the love that is your birthright and believe that it is the thing for which you actually hunger.”

These beautiful words provide comfort to me and open my heart to finding my silent center with God and the true peace that is there in endless supply; I hope they do the same for you!

All of us are coming out of a busy summer and preparing for fall. My ask is that you take a quick moment to check in on your 2024 pledge and see where you currently stand. If you have questions, please reach out to Scott Heersche in the office (scott@gslex.org or at 859-252-1744). You can also visit www.gslex.org/give to discover the numerous options for giving to Good Shepherd.

It is your generosity that enables us to do God’s good work in our parish and our community. Thank you for your faithful support. My prayer of continued peace, health, safety, and love to all of you and your families.

LOVE IS ALL

What is a Pledge?

Making an annual pledge or "Estimate of Giving" is a primary means by which the people of Good Shepherd share their gifts for the mission of ministry. An annual pledge expresses a heartfelt desire to give back a portion of our resources without attachment to be put into action toward the needs and opportunities of parish ministry life. Pledge contributions may be made through any of our normal giving methods, including identified cash offering, check, IRA disbursement, ACH auto draft, gift of stocks, or through our online Engage portal.

Pledged gifts are often made on a monthly basis, but any frequency of giving is welcome. Many choose to fulfill their annual pledge all at once with a lump sum contribution, while others will give weekly, or bi-monthly.

On "Consecration Sunday" - which will be celebrated October 27, 2024 - an invitation to prayerfully consider this type of giving will be extended to all.

For 2024, 299 pledges totaled $1.4 million toward the good work and ministry of the parish.

The Society of the Good Shepherd

Good Shepherd has explored and practiced the love ethic of Jesus within the Lexington community for over a century with joy and humility. We will celebrate the centennial of our beautiful and beloved church in 2025! This is a place and a people where mission and ministry remain strong, resilient, and vibrant.

As we set our sights on the next 100 years, meaningful planned giving will help provide the lasting resources needed for Good Shepherd to continue its Kingdom work for decades to come. The Society of the Good Shepherd was established to support these long-range needs.

Since its inception in 2000 the endowment established by The Society of the Good Shepherd has provided support for initiatives such as upkeep for our organ, stained glass, woodwork, and targeted facilities restoration in order to preserve our space for future generations.

Members of The Society of the Good Shepherd have committed to planned giving through several different means, including gifts of current assets and appreciated securities, bequests, life insurance gifts, revocable living trusts, life income gifts, and from IRA's and other tax deferred savings.

We invite you to consider how you might be led to join in this endeavor. In the coming year the Endowment Committee will be sharing more about the Society, its purpose, and ways to contribute. We encourage you to take note of these opportunities to learn more and to join us as they arise.
