It all comes down to prepositions

For followers of Jesus it all boils down to this: we want to be “rooted and grounded in love.” People who are “rooted and grounded in love” have been given the gift of a realization that their ground, the “root” of their being, is the love of God dwelling inside their actual body. Thus, their daily starting place is love. They come at the day before them from a place of rootedness in love.

I sometimes say that the two most important theological words in the Christian tradition are From and With. When a person is “rooted and grounded in love” she proceeds into the day from the ground of love within and she loves whatever and whoever is right in front of her with God.

Best I can tell, in order to make yourself vulnerable to receiving the gift of being rooted and grounded in love you’ve got to try darn near everything other than love and come up short. Once you’ve given up on trying to fix and control everything in your life, God finally has a chance to give you the gift, then you’ve got a new place to come from and you can ease into loving what’s right in front of you with Jesus.
