Elizabeth (Liz) Hinz│Vestry Clerk
I was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Bethesda, MD and McLean, VA. I have a BA in Psychology from James Madison University and a JD from George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School. I worked in the Violent Crimes Section of the U.S. Attorney's Office for Washington, D.C. to determine if I wanted to be a prosecutor, which led me to my very exciting true love, Federal Government contracts. I handled contracts for the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce, and then the Treasury Executive Office of Asset Forfeiture for the U.S. Department of Customs and Border Protection. I have a top-knotch skillset in acronyms, as you might imagine. I left this behind to become a full-time stay-at-home-mom (SAHM) after our second child was born and we moved to Lexington for Steve's work. We lived here and attended Good Shepherd from 2006-2013, when we moved to Austin, TX, also for Steve's work. We were fortunate enough to move back to Lexington last year.
I have been married to Steve for 27 years and we have three children. Evelyn is a sophomore in the Honor's College at UK studying mechanical engineering. William is a junior at Dunbar High School who swims and runs track. Andrew is a seventh grader at Beaumont Middle School who is learning archery and participates in Dunbar marching band, the Beaumont 7th and 8th grade band, and jazz band. We have two spoiled rotten schnauzer-poodle mixes named Leo and Toby, a rescue bunny named Mortimer, and an escape artist hamster named Winston.
I am a lifelong Episcopalian. This will be my 4th vestry term, having served at our churches in MD, here at Good Shepherd, and then in Texas. Over the years, I've been a lector, a greeter, a VBS worker, a Room in the Inn helper, a Blessings in a Backpack helper, a Christian Formation class facilitator, a Search Committee member, a convention delegate, and a Senior Warden. I have done everything from deep-frying Snickers for our our church's Waterfowl Festival booth to reviewing septic system proposals. Steve is an usher and participates in the men's group. William and Andrew are acolytes and participate in youth group. Andrew was confirmed at Good Shepherd this spring and William just attended Happening at Cathedral Domain. Evelyn is active at St. Augustine's UK ministry, where she is vice president. Our animals have all been blessed at the Blessing of the Pets repeatedly but still need many prayers. I look forward to the privilege to serve at Good Shepherd again in any capacity God asks of me.
