Beloved of Good Shepherd Church
Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!
Life is a wreck of busyness sometimes. In the midst of all the coming and going and frenetic doing, it is easy to lose the thread of what we’re here for. Why are we here and what is the purpose of life?
Christians have a unique answer to that question. We’re here to love and be loved. We’re here to have fun, to surrender ourselves to our true, core nature which is boundless joy and a capacity for deep happiness. Boy that sounds like some deep rooted, irrational idealism, doesn’t it? I sound like someone who doesn’t have any problems don’t I? Trust me, I’ve got plenty of problems. More than I care to admit. And I’m not happy all the time, but I still believe that we’re here for joy and we’re capable of boundless delight.
Easter is God’s way of showing us that nothing material or exterior has to change in our lives for us to find inner peace and joy through the power of Jesus’ love. We can be going through a very challenging, terrible season of life and still have inner access to the presence and strength of the resurrected Jesus Christ. We’ll talk more about that in the weeks ahead. First comes Lent.
Lent is a season of letting go, slowing down if you dare, in order to clear some space for the inflow of Grace on Easter.
You are invited to observe Lent with us at Good Shepherd. Consider what you want to let go of for 40 days starting on Ash Wednesday, March 5th. Let go of something that keeps you in the melee of busyness.
We will start with a party. Come join us on the eve of Lent for our annual Pancake Supper Tuesday, March 4th at 5:30 p.m. at the church. There will be Good Shepherd themed trivia from 6:30 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.
Then come join us for one of our Ash Wednesday services which will be held at 7:00 a.m., Noon, and 7:00 p.m. on March 5th.
Then consider joining us for at least one session of our Silent Retreat on Saturday, March 8th. You can sign up HERE.
One more thing, we have a full slate of outreach offerings scheduled for Lent. Outreach is the outward response to inner transformation. As God’s love takes hold of your inner life how are you moved to respond outwardly? Community outreach is one avenue for that response. Find our Lenten community outreach opportunities HERE.
What is life for? Love. Life is the grand adventure of discovering God’s love buried in all people, places, and things. Join us on the adventure by observing a holy Lent here at Good Shepherd. We’re all in this together, thank God for that!
Remember this always - God loves you, and I love you too!
Love is all,
Hendree+
