Book Two: Night of the Spirit│Chapter 6

  1. The soul is being swallowed by the darkness like Jonah was by the whale

  2. She must stay in the dark belly of the beast until resurrection

  3. She is convinced that God has rejected her

  4. This sense of rejection brings “unbearable pain”

  5. “The majesty of dark contemplation makes her feel her own misery”

  6. She descends into feelings of: imperfections, voids in perceptive faculties, and abandonment.”

  7. She is “thrust into emptiness”

  8. In dark contemplation the soul suffers suspension of her natural supports and perceptions.

  9. God is purging the Soul and she feels as if she is coming to an end

  10. God humbles her now sh He may exalt her later
