Book Two: Night of the Spirit│Chapter 9
The night darkens the Spirit to fill the soul with light
The spirit must be naked of all attachments
The Israelites longed in anguish for the meats of Egypt. They were attached to the past and couldn’t taste the manna which had potential to be the favorite taste of each.
The dark night of contemplation must annihilate the Soul to make her ready for the sweet taste of manna
The soul must be empty and impoverished before union. This is the dark night - true poverty of spirit
The soul needs to give up on the peace of her past
P. 123 - the pain comes from the Soul’s weakness, imperfections, and attachments.
