An Invitation to Wonder

It has been a delight to serve as Theologian in Residence for Children and their Families the past few months. Whether nor not we have children living in our household, as part of the family of faith called Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, we all interact with children. They belong to us and we to them. Indeed we are all the Children of God, held together in God’s loving hands.

As I engage in the shared life of this wonderful parish and come alongside Patty and her excellent work, I am hoping to do three things. I invite you to wonder along with me about them:

  1. Share stories and research that describe children’s spirituality. What are the ways that children tend to be with God and God with children?

  2. Lift up the children among us as our teachers. How do the children in our lives invite us  to grow in our love for God and others?

  3. Describe characteristics of environments that nurture the spirituality of children. How do we create an environment in our church and homes that cultivates the faith of our children?

Over the course of the next few months I’ll be regularly sharing some of my experiences and observations here. I invite you to reach out to me with your stories, questions and ideas. I would be delighted to meet with you or your small group or class. You may reach me through the church office or email at cynthia@gslex.org.  You may also wish to follow us on Instagram for resources and updates on children’s ministry at Good Shepherd.

With Anticipation and Wonder,

Cynthia
