Chapters 8-17

  1. “God is everything that is good, and the goodness in everything is God.”

  2. Julian was moved to love other people deeper concluding that “this is not about me this is about God.”

  3. Ch. 9 - “Whoever loves God loves all that is.”

  4. Ch. 10 “There is nowhere that God is not.”

  5. On the cross Jesus is in full solidarity with anyone who ever suffered in any way.

  6. God loves it when we look for him

  7. In a season of struggle seeking God is as good as finding Him.

  8. Strive for 3 things: willingness, patience, and complete faith

  9. Jesus is “simple, friendly, and utterly gracious.”

  10. Ch. 11 “all that is done is well done.”

  11. If God who is incapable of sin is the center of everything then sin is no thing.

  12. If God is infinite and unconditional mercy and grace then how can sin be. Isn’t the possibility of sin crowded out?

  13. Ch 12 - the blood of Jesus is “an aspect of our own nature.” It somehow liberates all of humanity

  14. Ch 13 - there is no wrath in God. Julian redefines the cross and crucifixion in the most tender, love-drenched way.

  15. The blood of Jesus is the all pervasive, overwhelming, infinite love of God.

  16. The adversary is wicked but impotent. Julian mocks the devil sweetly. Jesus will not lose one of his sheep to the devil.

  17. The forces of evil are busy but they never win. Love overcomes evil and fills us with joy.

  18. We tend to be so afraid of death thus Jesus went down to death to show us that there is nothing to be afraid of.

  19. Ch 14 God radiates laughter, joy, and endless love.  God pours gratitude out on all his servants for all eternity. God is endlessly gracious.

  20. Ch 15 in this life we will seesaw between suffering and delight.  That is normal. God is in both and we can grow from both.

  21. Ch 16 Christ’s body slowly dries up as he dies a painful death

  22. Ch 17 Christ’s suffering convinced Julian of her unshakable love for him.
