Chapter 12

  1. As the night progresses the receives gifts: self-knowledge, clothes of humility - the working clothes of aridity and desolation

  2. The soul is learning to commune with God more respectfully. I.e. not always asking for things

  3. The cleansing of the sensory attachments from the soul leaves the soul free to grasp the truth

  4. God imparts divine wisdom to an “empty-handed” soul

  5. “The soul is purified of the imperfections of spiritual pride into which she stumbled during her time of prosperity.”

  6. “From this humility arises love of neighbor”

  7. A fresh openness arises in the soul as pride is swept away
